139 ONLINE

Homepage_Dieneke Jansen_139 Greys ave_2016

139 ONLINE is a site specific event that will be streamed live between the YMCA carpark on Greys Avenue and ST PAUL St Gallery. This event is part of Dieneke Jansen’s exhibition Dwelling on the Stoep. For Dwelling on the Stoep Jansen focused on three distinct housing complexes – Marunda, Jakarta (opened 2009); Bijlmermeer, Amsterdam (opened 1968); and Greys Avenue, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland (opened 1947/1958).

139 Online is developed and hosted in collaboration with Radio NFA (No Fixed Abode) – a community orientated radio station run by people who are currently homeless or have previously experienced homelessness. The purpose of 139 Online is to connect with local residents and understand how they dwell within the social housing architecture of 139 Greys Avenue.

Come to ST PAUL St Gallery between 12–4pm to join the conversation via the live feed from Greys Avenue, or join Radio NFA and the tenants of 139 Greys Avenue.

Rose Matafeo and Urzila Carlson cook up a storm

International World Homeless day is held every year on the 10/10, and we went down to check it out, and hangout with some of the locals. Finding out what services were available for the homeless community in Tāmaki Makaurau. Rose Matafeo and Urzila Carlson were there to compete in a Celebrity cook off against two participants from the homeless community on who could cook the best omlette, they didn’t?

NFA Heads Back to School

Hanging out at MAINZ!

We went to MAINZ to learn new skills, like how to use recording software and how to create stings and commercials to use for Radio NFA. Up-skilling what knowledge we already has helped us learn about qualities of sounds and work towards making a great podcast. It was an intense two days of training, and we had a lot of fun getting an inside look at how a studio operates, and checking out all the specific gear. Thanks MAINZ! See you next year!

Hikoi – Kahikatea Tu Te Uru

Kahikatea Tu Te Uru 2014

Kahikatea is a project run by Auckland City Council and members of the homeless community. Its based around the urban Maori populace who are currently dislocated, have no connections to their cultural heritage, their Iwi or Hapu. this Hikoi was designed to follow the journey of Hape, from Hawaiki to Aotearoa highlighting the fact that when the great waka left Hawaiki, they were homeless. We followed his journey through the Waitamata, into the Tamaki estuary, and out west into the Manakau Harbour, finishing the journey at Karangahape Rd, where Hape welcomed the five great waka to Aotearoa. We stopped into each Hapu/Marae along the passage Hape took through Tāmaki Makaurau.

ELECTIONS 2014

This was the first Broadcast outside of the city mission, in an exhibition space called RM Gallery on Samoa House lane. The show was called ELECTIONS 2014, with Radio NFA occupying the archive room. We were still in our infancy, learning how to interact with the radio, but we were full of energy and drive to succeed (and still are). We used the space to have a couple of Hui to plan out the next steps for NFA

1974350_373932479420656_6078315944313873263_o 2014-08-02 15.24.41

The big launch of Radio NFA, 8th August  2014 at the Auckland City Mission. Awesome day! Thank you to Awatea Hawke of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei for blessing the launch. We had live music broadcasting on 87.7 fm (which reached just outside the front door), and a massive feed – so thanks to those who brought Kai in, and to those who turned up to help us celebrate the launch!
