• White Night at Auckland City Library 2015

Radio NFA is a community orientated radio station run by people who are currently homeless or have previously experienced homelessness. The project aims to dispel myths of homelessness as represented by the media, and provide a voice for the growing number of homeless people in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The structure of the current group is that of co-direction, where all members have a say in how the station is run, its core aims, and NFA’s projected future. Radio NFA (No Fixed Abode) is presently web-based, and can also be found as a live stream and archived podcast on www.mixlr.com/radio-nfa/.

Radio NFA is apolitical, that is we don’t actively promote one particular view over another. Our strategy for the next six months is to remain fluid, setting the station up in different locations with the aim of building connections throughout the community. By the end of the year we will have put all members through a short radio course at MAINZ, and will be working toward teaching certificates for the active members. This will in turn feed back into the community, as more interested people can be taught how to use the equipment and can be given shows. This will help us in applying for funding towards our five-year goal and second phase of the project, where Radio NFA can become an autonomous entity. We have been active since the beggining of 2014, and are currently based at Urban Vineyard in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.
